Volunteers Serving Springfield Township
Squad 6 and its Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T.) responded to a confirmed dryer fire at the Ambler Fabric Care Center Coin Laundry. The fire was rapidly knocked down by crews from Wissahickon Fire Company (Station 7), Fort Washington Fire Company (Station 88), and Centre Square Fire Company (Station 33), and traffic and crowd control was handled by fire police from Station 7 and Station 33. A little after 10PM on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, a truck on fire next to a home was reported. Squad 6 and Engine 6 followed by Utility 6 responded to 305 Penn Oak Rd. Command 6 responded from around the corner and hit the fire with an extinguisher to help beat it back. The rear of painter’s truck was on fire with drop clothes, paint and tools fully involved and melting the siding on the home to which was parked adjacent. Squad 6 pulled a 1.75 hoseline and a booster hose to protect the exposure and worked to clear out the rear of the truck to extinguish the burning contents. Engine 6 followed with supplying tank water to Squad 6 and doing an interior search for extension, none was found.
Flourtown Fire Company and Wyndmoor Hose Company were dispatched at approximately 3:30PM to reports of a car crash into a building around 613 Bethlehem Pike in Erdenheim. Multiple callers reported two individuals trapped in the vehicle and extensive damage to the building. Squad 6 and Engine 6 responded along with Rescue 82. Stabilization of the vehicle and patients was followed by a decision to cut and flap the entire roof of the vehicle so extrication of the driver who was laying on the drivers door and a passenger could take place. Following extrication, and removal of the vehicle by Flourtown Texaco, lumber from Rittenhouse Lumber across the street was used to stabilize the building which had a large portion of its street facing wall destroyed in the crash.

On the Tenth Anniversary of the horrific attacks on the our nation on 9/11/01, the community of Springfield Township gather to remember all those who lost their lives in NYC, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA. Flourtown Fire Company along with the other two township fire companies, Oreland Volunteer Fire Company and Wyndmoor Hose Company, Springfield Ambulance and Springfield Township Police Department were also honored as our local emergency responders. The public enjoyed free food, and information from many community organizations as they have for the last 17 years in beautiful Cisco Park in Erdenheim, PA.
Squad 6 and Engine 6 responded to a three car vehicle accident on Skippack Pike (Route 73) just past Joshua Road on Monday, September 5, 2011. The driver of a white SUV, complaining of having difficulty breathing, was extricated from the vehicle. Squad 6 popped the driver’s door and the patient was removed. All others involved in the accident were out of the vehicles. Utility 6 along with Traffic 29 handled closing down Route 73 until the accident scene could be cleared. Rescue 29 also responded and assisted Flourtown Fire Company on the scene.

A vehicle into a tree at 1307 Paper Mill Road was the dispatch. Rescue 82 and Squad 6 responded and found a young driver had struck a tree at the address after losing control. The vehicle a SUV struck the tree in the area of the drivers door. Using the Homatro rescue tools off Rescue 82, Flourtown’s crew assisted with patient extrication by removing the driver’s door and pulling a hose line for safety purposes.
At approximately 3:30 PM, Squad 6 was requested at reduced speed to a vehicle accident by Chief 700. An auto came through the intersection of Walnut and Lorraine Avenues in Oreland and struck the corner support of the porch and front of the house on the corner. There were no injuries. Squad 6 responded and additional personnel responded in Utility 6 which also acted as Fire Police. Paratech shoring was used along with an air cylinder to shore up the porch. Station 700 assisted in the shoring operation and layed down oil dry. Lumber was brought in by Mike Thornton’s Carpentry Service to back up the temporary shoring and the porch was secure. Company responded to the rear of Halligan’s Pub on Bethlehem Pike on 4/26/11 to find a working car fire.
900 Block Fraser Road on April 8, 2011 at 07:34 hours
Squad 6 arrives on scene with a pick-up truck well involved, with exposure to a fence and brush of adjoining property. Member’s stretched a 1.75″ line on the fire and made a quick knock on the fire. Company in service for 30 minutes.
This auto hit the pole at around 1:11 am on Saturday morning April 2nd. Bethlehem Pike in the area of the accident was closed for almost 12 hours while PECO Energy made repairs. Members were in service for one hour assisting Springfield Police. Minor injuries to the driver of the car.
