Task Force Drill – Train Accident – November 2011

150x150_TrainDrill

The Colonial Regional Technical Rescue Task Force, of which Flourtown Fire Company is a participating member, held a Department of Homeland Security authorized drill on Sunday, November 20, 2011. Taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, the companies gathered at Spring Mill Fire Company and were soon dispatched in an order as they would be in a real emergency to a local train crossing and station. The scenario involved a commuter train striking a vehicle, and a mass causality and injured situation. There was also a separate law enforcement element that involved a terrorist bomb scenario, but that was held on a separate car a bit further down the tracks from the fire companies’ drill.

Flourtown personnel, Assistant Chief Chris Buckley, Captain Chris Manning, Leitenant John Redington, and firefighters: Dean Seltzer, Kevin Davis, Tim Ernst, Tyler Buckley, and Sal Santangelo all took part in stabilizing victims and extricating them from the train and the severely-damaged vehicle. Chief George Wilmot and his daughter, Lexi Wilmot were part of the scenario’s observation team and “victim” volunteers. Photos by Bob Wilmot, Jr.

Confined Space Search and Rescue Training

Devised by Captain Chris Manning, this obstacle course search and rescue drill had the crew twisting and turning as they traversed the course blindfolded.

Forcible Entry Training– Prospect Park Fire Co.

1

For the past two Monday nights, April 19th & 26th, members of Flourtown ventured down the Blue Route to the Prospect Park Fire Company in Delaware County for some hands on forcible entry training. Crews got to experience as real world as possible training on an impressive door prop built by Firehouse Innovations. Multiple scenarios were conducted on both inward and outward swinging doors, using a variety of forcible entry tools and techniques. This training better prepares our firefighters for making quick access into a building which could lead to faster rescues of trapped occupants.

Our sincere thanks go out to the Prospect Park Fire Company for allowing us the oppurtunity to train with the door prop. A special thanks to Fire Chief Mike Signora for conducting the training.

Thank you also to Lt. Chris Manning for setting up this training

Roof Ventilation Training – 3/21/10

Sunday morning March 21st, Flourtown was invited by Wissahickon Fire Co. to an acquired structure for roof ventilation training. A group of members took full advantage of this seldom training opportunity. They were able to learn and fine tune their skills, using vent saws, working off of roof ladders and venting a roof working off of the main.    Flourtown would like to thank Chief John Leadbeater and the Wissahickon Fire Co. for the invitation.
